Photography can open up a new perspective on the present, make us question our reality, and expand our horizons. Vontobel presents the «A New Gaze» award in collaboration with photography expert Urs Stahel. Every other year, the sponsorship prize for contemporary photography supports up-and-coming international artists with the realization of their project—from concept to exhibition, including an accompanying publication.
Dongkyun Vak wins «A New Gaze 3»
Following North America and Africa, «A New Gaze 3» is dedicated to contemporary photography in East and Southeast Asia: South Korean artist Dongkyun Vak has been awarded the Vontobel sponsorship prize. His project proposal on the topic of «Responsibility in the Anthropocene age» impressed the jury. Vak has brought his idea to life photographically in the project called “Heatwave”. The exhibition will be on view from 20 May - 1 July 2022.
Dongkyun Vak (*1992) lives and works in Seoul, South Korea. He is interested in the relationship between object and image in the digital era and in the role of technology in the Anthropocene.
As the first winner of «A New Gaze», Eva O’Leary created a tripartite work in which she examined photography as an instrument for creating different realities in contemporary Western society.
