Photography can open up a new perspective on the present, make us question our reality, and expand our horizons. Launched in 2017, A New Gaze is intended as a steppingstone for emerging artists, enabling an international artist to implement an idea for a project from its conception through to the exhibition and accompanying catalog. Awarded every two years, each edition of Vontobel’s sponsorship prize focuses on a new geographical region and socially relevant topic, to promote and convey alternative views from around the globe. Complimenting the company’s Art Collection, the award further emphasizes Art Vontobel’s philanthropic approach and highlights our intention to foster the next generation.

A New Gaze 4 presents Emidio Battipaglia and Augustin Lignier

From plant-led artificial intelligence to a social experiment: we invite you to discover the winning projects from the fourth edition of Vontobel’s A New Gaze sponsorship prize by young artists Emidio Battipaglia (*1984, IT) und Augustin Lignier (*1995, FR). The exhibition opens on May 24th, 2024 and will be on view for clients and the public throughout the Summer.
With A New Gaze 4, Vontobel is honoring two artists jointly for the first time. The jury thus acknowledges the quality of two highly committed artists who successfully take on the given theme of ‘Community’ by addressing associated societal evolutions in varied yet complementary ways.
